'The Good Road' director Gyan Correa hoping his film enters Oscar race

The Good Road director Gyan Correa is in the US to begin his campaign to be in the final shortlist of the Best Foreign Films at the Oscars.

The National award-winning Gujarati film, starring Ajay Gehi, Sonali Kulkarni and Keval Katrodia, was embroiled in controversy over its selection as India's official entry at the Oscars.

A certain section felt Ritesh Batra's The Lunchbox should have been selected. Correa, however, does not seem this posing a hindrance to make the audience aware about the film in the US.

He says, `Honestly, I haven't thought about this. The controversy is simply not on my mind. My producer, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) of India and I are determined to focus on our campaign, work hard and leave the rest to God and fate.`

He adds, `The road ahead is very tough being in the fray with 75 international films. But we take heart that the Oscar process, like most, is known to throw up surprises. And that's been the story of The Good Road thus far.`

Correa, who is currently in New York, will be in Los Angeles for 10 days to cover the screenings that have been lined up. He informs, `New York-based BGP Films is the sales agent and is working to find the right distribution partner for the film.`

The Oscar ceremony is slated to be held on March 1. The Academy will be shortlisting 15 films from the 75 international films submitted from which five will make to the list of the final nominees by January-end when the nominations are likely to be announced.

Though director Gyan Correa feels the controversy of his film's selection will not make an impact, The Good Road's actor Ajay Gehi thinks otherwise. Ajay attended the Indian Film Festival in Houston (US) in mid-October where The Good Road bagged the Best Feature Film Jury award. Says Ajay, `Whatever said is on record. Social media and search engines have all that has been spoken about the controversy. So I had people asking me more about it rather than the film,` says Ajay who has featured in films like Maqbool and the TV show Millie.
